Big Fire

The BIG FIRE panorama was created by Stefan Roloff at NYIT (New York Institute of Technology) in 1984 with technical assistance by Larry Shirley. It is the first artist- created digital video, done on an Images II Computer prototype.

Roloff invited drummer Andrew Cyrille as a composer for this video, juxtaposing its electronically looped imagery with Cyrille’s purely acoustic sounds, recorded by Henry Hirsch at Waterfront Studios.

In 2019 Andrew Cyrille invited Stefan Roloff to perform the piece live during his Lifetime Achievement Award at Arts for Art Festival at Roulette, Brooklyn NY.
